Round 1 Matches 1-4

Two icons were eliminated this round, so two choices are revealed. Neither scores any points, since neither has won a battle. In fact, Steve Austin loses a point for the squash defeat, taking Baywatch Joe to a negative total score. I'm sure it'll turn around.

In order to preserve the secrecy of the selected icons, teams with winning icons will not have the wins reflected in their score until the icons are defeated (so if you won a match, but did not see your score jump, this is why). Also this will [hopefully] allow everyone to have a moment at the top of the leader board at some point in the competition.

Feel free to comment any corrections :) Happy clashing!

Some questions/suggestions regarding scoring and posting - none of which need to be answered as I am not the one putting all the hard work into the game.

1) Does point count go up by round?

If round 1 wins are worth one point, round 2 wins worth 2 points, etc., then those who lose characters in early rounds have a chance to catch up in later rounds, keeping them interested in the competition.

2) Can we show scoring at the end of each full round?

I like the idea of showing the defeated icons as they lose. However, with the points getting shown only after an icon is defeated, one really has no idea how they are doing relative to the rest of the bettors. If we were to post scores (without revealing who has what competitors left in the game)at the end of each full round of matches, we will be able to see our scores without knowing who has what icon.

Just a few thoughts.

My 1/50th of a dollar (and I'm not the administrator of the game either so I'll defer to Jeffy)
1) The short answer is yes.
As with last season, each round's victories are worth more. The only time you lose points (I think) is when your icon is the victim of a SQUASH (the most decisive victory of the week). This set up is my only hope, since I am (almost) certain I will lose at least 3 of my icons in Round 1, and have therefore named my team Les sous-chiens (the underdogs).
Vive les Sous-Chiens!!

2) The short answer is no.
Let me explain, (no there is not enough time), let me sum up: showing where everyone at the "table" stood would be like competing at the world poker tournament and being able to see the little percentage graphics that ESPN puts up. I think the speculation on who the other players might still have active in their hand will be a great deal of the fun, especially after the early bloodbath of Round 1. And, this way the graphic element changes every week, instead of a bunch of question marks.
I'll even throw this out: people could try to "increase the pot" as they felt more confident about their surviving icons. "I think my secret score is more than anyone else's, and I'm now willing to risk TWO Pez dispensers because of it."
That might be a little more competitive than some would enjoy, considering many have not registered even an initial artifact for the treasure box yet. Maybe in a later edition.

Good questions, and good thoughts both. Here are some more.

1) I agree with A-bear on the increase in points.

2) Regarding total points, I think that part of the fun is not knowing who everyone has, and revealing scoring on the fly risks to reveal some of that. I note your suggestion is only for revealing at each round end, so in fact it would not be as labour intensive as the poker odds scenario, but would reveal how many squashes other players have.

Should we elect not to reveal total points, it is a simple matter for players to calculate their own total points, and can deduce the total points of other teams (not counting squash bonuses).

The way we're doing it now ought to give everyone the illusion of winning at some point or other in the competition, but naturally it's best to look like you're losing at first (and not have any icons revealed), and have big point icons revealed at the end.

So long as the total score does not reflect winning icons an the week of the matches [but at round end only], I'm happy to post scores with or without the bonuses, according to player consensus.

The detectives among you could try and figure out who has who.

I hadn't thought of squash victories - that's an excellent point. Posting points at the end of a round would make it easier to deduce who has what character if squashes are included.

And a simple count of each persons question marks at the end of the rounds will give everyone a fairly good idea of overall points.

Thanks for the explanation.
